Apple Music has announced emerging Nigerian singer Morravey as its Africa Rising act.

The artist development initiative aims to boost the careers of up-and-coming artists on the continent by showcasing their music on the streaming service. Morravey joins the likes of fellow Nigerian artist Lojay and Ghana’s Gyakie, who have made the program over the years.

Morravey’s latest releases, along with those of Africa’s hottest new artists, will be available now on the Apple Music Africa Rising Playlist.

“Feeling super blessed and thankful to have been chosen as the Africa Rising Artist for November,” she said. “I remember growing up and being inspired by other amazing women in music; to think that now I get a chance to inspire someone else, another young girl, is surreal.”

The Afropop singer and songwriter, who hails from Port Harcourt, burst onto mainstream notice after appearing alongside label boss Davido on ‘In the Garden’, off the latter’s Timeless album. Her music pays homage to the city’s spirit of resilience, love, and celebration.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, Morravey started experimenting with music seriously, initially using gospel songs as a foundation and infusing them with instrumentals from secular tracks. Her audience grew as she began sharing cover videos, and she caught the attention of prominent figures in the industry, including Davido.

Meanwhile, Morravey has released her EP Ravi, comprising five tracks spanning R&B, pop, afrobeats, and other dance genres.

“Coming from Port Harcourt gives you a different kind of confidence, a different kind of vibe,” Morravey said. “I write songs with the intent of inspiring people to feel all the feels—dance, love, and motivation. Music is my way of connecting with people and, in turn, helping them connect.”
