Netizens mourn as female banker kills self, pens suicide note

Nigerians mourned the death by suicide of a female bank worker in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Thursday.

It was reported that Amarachi Ugochukwu, 32, passed away after taking an insecticide.

PUNCH Metro, a Nigerian news outlet, learned that the incident happened on Monday within the premises of a bank.

Unknowingly to her fellow workers, Ugochukwu entered the washroom at around 1:00 pm and is believed to have taken the insecticide there.

Other members and staff had started looking for her when the phone she left on her table kept ringing and she was not around to pick up the calls.

A police source confirmed to one of our correspondents at Punch Metro that Ugochukwu was later found dead inside the toilet with the bottle of insecticide and her suicide note.

In the suicide note obtained by one correspondent, the lady blamed the hard economy for her decision to end her life, lamenting that nothing was working well for her.

“Nothing is working in my life. My figures are low. My brain is clogged up. The economy is getting harder. My decisions are wrong. My mind is messed up. The future doesn’t seem bright at all. I see extreme hardship. I can’t bear the pain anymore,” she wrote in the suicide note.

In the suicide note, Ugochukwu stated her regrets to her parents and other family members.

“I’m sorry mum, I’m sorry dad, I’m sorry Nene, Okwe, Toto, Nazor, Chuchu, Ifunanya,” she noted.

Reports from PUNCH Metro learned that the manager of the bank had reported the incident to the police.

According to reports, Ugochukwu locked herself in the bathroom to take her own life, and the bank manager informed the police that she was discovered dead when the door was pushed open.

The police took the body away and deposited it at the Ikorodu General Hospital where an autopsy could be done. The incident is being looked into by the Lagos police, a source stated.
